Defenders of the Gene, pg 9 by CoconutMikeNIke Defenders of the Gene, pg 9 by CoconutMikeNIke
So, after posting pages 1-8, I thought that 8 ended with a good...not really cliffhanger, but an interesting point where you realize that Smash is not fooling around, and it was a good point as a sort of sample...anyway, I wasn't going to post anymore pages for a little while, at least until the Kickstarter was finished, instead posting other things. Like character sketches, other pieces, whatever. But, as you can see, I have not. Between work and wanting to just hammer out more pages while the inspiration was there. And then I felt bad for not posting ANYTHING. And in hopes of making up for it, here's page 9.

This is actually the first page to have inking, at least in part, done with physical media. The close-up (frame 5) was inked just to try out my new Copic pens, but it came out so good I just had to scan it back in.

And, again, if you like this, check out the Defenders of the Gene Kickstarter [link] and spread the word. only a few days left, but a solid showing now could still pull it off. Thanks!

Solid composition, good color and nice lines. Panel 3 seems slightly off but good overall. :D

Thanks, I appreciate it. Do you think you could be a bit more specific about panel 3, though? I agree that it's off, but I would like what someone else thinks is wrong, see if it matches with what I was thinking. Either way, thanks again for taking the time to check it out!

His head appears to be sitting on his left shoulder rather than the center. Also, the scene seems a little static for a sudden arresting of motion. The body pose is a good choice but, I think, needs scenic support, not very much but some. Impact lines, speed lines, sound effect, flying debris ect. just some of the possibilities.

Mainly it was the anatomy of the villain. Otherwise nice job. :D

Alright, yeah, pretty much what I was thinking. I think I changed part of the body, and never adjusted his head, so it ended up off kilter. I don't really remember, though. I will have to keep an eye out for stuff like that from now on, and try to keep it from looking static. Thanks again, I appreciate the more in depth comments. Very cool of you.
